5 Reasons Why You Should Skip The Girls Trip For A Solo Vacay

To know me is to know that I can’t sit in one spot for too long. If I am, it’s likely only long enough to plan out my next travel destination.

It’s no secret that we are living in an era where everyone loves to travel; especially now that we have a glimpse of luxury vacays by way of your favorite influencer.

However, as much as we ‘claim’ to love traveling, many of us make excuses for why never make it to the airport:

“I don’t have enough vacation time at work.”

“I can’t afford to travel.”

Or my personal favorite, “I don’t have anyone to travel with me.” 🙄

I can definitely get behind reason number one, getting time off from work can be quite tricky depending on where you work and who you work for. I may even be forgiving of those who believe traveling is an expensive hobby (although there’s a host of information and resources available that show how affordable traveling really is, but I digress).

BUT for those who think that when it comes to traveling, two or more is the magic number, sit down and get comfortable, this one's for you.

Traveling solo has been a “fantasy” of mine for years. Like most fantasies, I didn’t think it would actually happen because I was too overcome with fear.

As women, we are fed a steady diet of fear. We’re given a set of rules that are supposed to keep us safe, but really they just keep us inside the lines prohibiting us from truly embracing a world in which we want to fully occupy.

Traveling in your own rhythm gives you the opportunity to explore at your own pace.

No matter the location, we all have priorities while traveling and we each learn about the world in our own ways. Therefore, being on your own frees you from the compromise and obligation that may arise when traveling with companions.

And it gives you chance to enjoy each experience without feeling guilty.

While that trip to Miami with the gang sounds lit AF, I want you to think of (if ever) the last vacation you took solo dolo?

If that question seems daunting in any fashion, good!

We spend hella time working on ways to reach our highest self but 9 times out of 10, we do so in our own comfortable environment. What makes solo traveling such a vibe is that it places you in an unfamiliar setting and challenges you in areas of independence.

Solo traveling can be even more rewarding as it forces you to step out of your comfort zone and gives you the opportunity to learn about your total self. It’s a great experience that helps us grow and we shouldn't be afraid to do.

Here are my top 5 reasons why you should take the plunge sis and get to traveling by ya bad self!

1.Know Thyself: You will spend a lot of time WITH yourself, not BY yourself.

We often dilute the importance of learning about ourselves before diving into the lives of those we encounter. You are the most important person in your life ,you are your best friend, your biggest and fiercest supporter. Looking inwards and noticing your own reaction to the new experiences, places, and people helps to see the real you inside.Traveling allows you to learn about yourself without distractions from outside noise or the comfort of a familiar environment.

2.Get to Know Others: It’s inevitable that you will meet new people or new people will find you.

That’s part of the experience! Traveling solo doesn’t mean you won’t interact with other people. The gag? You decide the level you desire and are comfortable with. To all my introverts, this is a chance for you to be bold! And for my extroverts, this is right up your ally. Traveling is an amazing opportunity to get to know the story of someone sitting next to you.

3. Resourceful Will Be Your Middle Name:

While life is much easier when someone tells us the answers, traveling alone pushes you to be self-reliant. You will learn to solve problems as they arise and learn to take responsibility and control over any situation you find yourself in. Why? Because if not you, who will? Being resourceful is a skill that you can take throughout life. Embrace it.

4. Do You Mama: One of my favorite reasons to solo travel? Doing what the fuck I want to do!

When you travel with a companion or in a group, you have to be accommodating of the desires of those you are with. But on a solo journey? Honey, you get to do what you feel like doing! Whether it’s something ambitious and or lazing around your hotel – all that matters is that you get to do exactly what you want and feel like doing in that moment.

5.Confidence Builder: Imagine how fulfilled you will feel conquering the challenges that come with solo travel.

It would be remiss of me not to mention that while traveling, things will not go 100% according to plan. That’s life. However, conquering those moments speaks volumes in self-discovery and can be a real self-esteem booster.

Now that you know why you should travel solo, go do it! Embrace the puzzle and enjoy the feeling that comes with solving it. Where will you end up? Who will you meet? What will you learn? These are the best part about traveling by yourself, and I promise you won’t regret it.
