Bish,You're Good Enough: How To Believe in Yourself & Have the Strength to Shine

I’ve been writing for years. Poetry, essays, research papers, and more; in and out of school, it was just something I enjoyed doing. But, for some reason, when I started my blog I second guessed myself and constantly questioned my talent.

I’d have one of my closest friends read my article before I’d submit it anywhere and she’d ask me the same question every single time. “Why did you need me to read this?” I’d laugh because I knew where the conversation was headed. She’d say, “You know it’s good, you know you’re talented. Why are you so nervous?”

The last article I had her read was my first article to be published online. After reading all of the comments and love the article had gotten, I finally got it. I really am talented. She wasn’t just saying it to be nice. She was being 100% honest. I just wish it didn’t take hearing & seeing other people believe it for me to actually believe it.

Maybe you’re in the same situation I was in. You know you have what it takes to shine and succeed but you’re still wondering if you’re good enough and if your talent is worth noticing. Don’t be me. Don’t live for years fearing failure when you know damn well you’re so far from it.

Girl, you know you have what it takes and more. Here are some tips to help boost your confidence and get you on your way:

1. Take time to get to know yourself!

This may sound elementary but, seriously. Sometimes, we have to step back and realize who we are & what we’re capable of. Personally, I talk  out my strengths, weaknesses, talents & shortfalls. Hearing myself say these things gives me so much strength. I even stand and stare in the mirror while I talk it out and it  amplifies my confidence. You can even try writing it all out on paper. A list, idea bubbles, etc. Something! Knowing yourself is a major key to knowing and believing in yourself.

2. Check your fears at the door.

Fear can be such a hindrance and could very easily be the death of your success, before you even start on your path. Babe, I beg of you. Please don’t let your fears hold you back from your glorious destiny. You can still have fear and move through fear to accomplish your goals. It doesn’t have to go away for you to continue moving forward. You’re capable of so much and have a ton of potential. Don’t let your fears cost you everything that’s promised to you.

3. Use your community, ma’am. Cherish them.

So many times, my girls have been my saving grace. They’ve pulled me up, talked sense back into me, fixed my crown, and have spoken life back into my damn-near dead hopes, dreams, & soul. My brother has helped me so much, also. He’s been my go-to for stupid questions, reassurance, and more. Along with many others, my little community has kept me afloat and has reminded me of who I am. If you’re blessed to have a group of people that do these things for you, cherish and value them. If you don’t have a community of support work on actively building one by meeting new people and making intentional friendships.

4. Acknowledge your gifts and move with them.

When you’re ready to acknowledge your strengths and build up enough confidence, it’s time figure out your steps & take action. Hold your dreams, gifts, & talents close and strut your stuff, girl. It’s time to show the world who you are! Your glow needs to be seen, babe! It’s your time to shine and let your talents speak for themself. All you need to do is put your best foot forward, let your confidence do its job, and watch your gifts manifest themselves.

I know things are easier said than done but, if you want to live your best life and be happy, you need to believe in yourself and your abilities. You can do so much and go so far, girl. All you have to do is trust yourself.
